Horta Restaurante
Studio Michiel Wijnen X Meeder Ontwerpers - Horta Restaurante, Amsterdam, 2026
Set within Amsterdam’s Zuidas, HORTA is a contemporary Spanish restaurant that introduces a rich and inviting hospitality experience to one of the city’s most metropolitan districts.
Drawing inspiration from the warmth of Valencia, the spirit of Catalonia, and the dynamic rhythm of Amsterdam, the design balances bold, monumental architectural gestures with a lively bar culture.
Natural light, lush greenery, music and carefully choreographed spatial moments shape a welcoming destination where Catalan and Valencian passion meet Amsterdam elegance, a place to simply breeze into.
bar culture
At HORTA, the long bar is conceived as a true Spanish-style dining bar a place to eat, gather and experience the energy of the open kitchen up close.
Comfortable swivel stools, generous legroom and ample space on the bar create an informal yet refined dining setting. Closer to the DJ and lounge area, the bar naturally becomes more casual, offering space for drinks and late-evening encounters.
Dark tiles around the kitchen reduce light reflection, while focused lighting on the worktops highlights the preparation of the food without disturbing the warm and vibrant atmosphere of the space.
Echoes of the Amsterdam School
Monumental details at HORTA are shaped by subtle references to Amsterdam School architecture.
The elongated bar, with its stepped canopy, echoes the movement, rhythm and horizontal layering of this architectural tradition. In the open space, clusters of suspended lampshades form generous clouds, adding softness and theatre to the interior.
In the restrooms, striped tilework continues this language, referring to the iconic banding and shadow play of Amsterdam School façades transforming functional spaces into expressive, graphic moments.
